The Advocacy Council for Human Rights
The Advocacy Council for Human Rights (ACHR) is dedicated to the implementation of full civil rights protection for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender people (the LGBT community).
Founded as a non-profit group in 1995, the ACHR is an active service organization that works for LGBT-friendly legislation, conducts outreach programs, and fosters communication within and outside of the LGBT community.
For the past 15 years the Advocacy Council for Human Rights has worked to bring about an end to discrimination against LGBT people. Through support for LGBT-friendly candidates and lobbying elected officials, the council has actively championed the vision of a government that offers equality to all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. Along the way, the council has also sought to nurture the Bloomington/Normal LGBT community by offering information, educational programs, and social events such as the Your Normal LGBT Film Festival.
The ACHR Mission Statement
We pledge ourselves to the awakening of compassion and understanding between all peoples. We strive to end discrimination and to foster mutual respect regardless of sexual orientation, creed, race, gender, or physical ability.
